What is the government's ECO scheme?

The Energy Company Obligation (also known as the ECO scheme) is a UK government-led energy efficiency scheme that promotes the reduction of carbon emissions and tackles fuel poverty. The scheme requires the UK's medium to large gas and electricity suppliers to financially help eligible households become more energy-efficient.

The ECO scheme launched in early 2013 and is now in its third funding term. The current version of the scheme is known as ECO3 and is available for customers in the UK. The free scheme entitles eligible households to financial support to cover the full cost or part cost of home insulation and heating system upgrades.
